On a lot at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport sits a long-abandoned, perfectly preserved airline terminal — though it may be unrecognizable as a place for passengers to kill time today. The Trans World Airlines (TWA) Flight Center's sleek, neo-futuristic design makes it look more like an airport from "The Jetsons."

Built at the height of the Jet Age and closed in 2001, the TWA terminal is now being transformed into a hotel and conference center housing 505 guest rooms, a spa, an aviation-themed museum, and a 10,000-square-foot public observation deck.

Take a look at what made the TWA Flight Center an architectural landmark.

Built in 1962, the Trans World Airlines Flight Center marked a turning point in the aviation industry.

Flying was no longer a luxury for the upper class. In celebration of this new era, the TWA terminal was built in Queens, New York.
